Women In Masonry

Council for Freemasonry

The Council for Freemasonry

In 2024 English Freemasonry announced the creation of the Council for Freemasonry, covering female as well as male members in England and Wales.

The Council will address the ongoing unfounded criticisms and inaccurate misconceptions surrounding the Craft, particularly the erroneous claim that Freemasonry is exclusively male.

Women’s Freemasonry has been an integral part of Freemasonry in the UK for over a century.

The Order of Women Freemasons

The OWF is the largest of the Women's Masonry Organisations in England. Their Hertfordshire base is here in St Albans.

You can find out more at:

Here is a short YouTube video from OWF that describes the differences and similarities of Men's and Women's Freemasonry

Established in 1908

Women's Lodges have been a part of Freemasonry for more than a century.

There is an interesting and rather archaic  short YouTube video showing the 1939 Installation of the OWF Grand Master in London.

As you'll see things have changed a lot since then......we are not quite so formal nowadays.

Old Albanian Women's Lodge

Currently there is no "school linked" Women's Lodge, but we are aware of a growing demand, and we are keen to help.

Please contact us if you:

  •  would like to find out more about joining Freemasonry
  • are already a mason and could be a founding member of an OA Women's Lodge
